Delta Bass-n-Fly Challenge May 30, 2008 Final Results Stockton, Ca. May,30th,2008 With a backdrop of a golden California sunrise, the inaugural Delta Bass-n-Fly Challenge was born. The American flag standing tall waving in the calm morning air, the National Anthem resounding across the 32 boat / 63 contestant lineup, the stage was set for an awesome day. The finish of the Anthem brought cheers amongst the contestants as the tournament director Dave Sanchez called out the official time. With an official time of 0600, the first boat, team Carlo Proto and Larry Dextraze blasted off from Buckley Cove and became part of Delta bass angling history. Teams came from all points north,south, east and west states to participate in the first ever flyfishing bass tournament held on the California Delta. The contest culminated in an awards ceremony wherein the top two teams were in a battle of ounces not pounds to claim first place prize money. Bass-n-Fly team member Ken Hanley served as Master of Ceremony as he called up the winners and presented the prizes. The team of Steve Potter and Chuck Sterni claimed top prize money of $1,985.00 by edging out their rival by only 4 ounces with a weight of 18lbs.8oz. Second place team of Mike Baisdon and Russ Owens weighed in their bag at 18lbs.4oz. with an 11lb.10oz kicker that moved them from mid pack up to the leader board. Rounding out the top 6 payout positions, team Keith Westra & JR Hubbard anchored a 3rd place finish with a nice 7lb.13oz.bass, team Robert Johnson & Mike Wier snatched a 4th place finish by 5oz. over 5th place team of Jake McKittrick & Keith Price. 6th place finishers Willie Cook & Bob Arwine wrapped up the payout positions. The Delta Bass-n-Fly Challenge tournament by alliance of Bass-n-Fly and Stockton Bass Club represents the inaugural event with future events in planning.
